Get Smart Review!

Get Smart Review!

In the movie ‘Get Smart’, Maxwell Smart of a U.S spy agency called control investigates killings of their agents with agent 99, his partner. Control is supposedly ‘non-existant’ after the defeat of KAOS, but KAOS lives on. Smart and Agent 99 get information tracking down a man named Siegfried, the head of KAOS, who has put bombs throughout America. Can Max and agent 99 stop him before he wins?

The get smart movie is an interesting, and sometimes funny, adaptation of the old series. There were many great references to the old series like the old ‘shoe-phone’ and the quote ‘missed it by that much!’. It also had all those old classic characters like Maxwell Smart, Agent 99 and a cameo by the Hymie character at the end.

There were many recognizable and incredibly wonderful actors taking part in this film. Some names to mention are Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson and Patrick Warburton, to name a few! I have seen, as a kid so I am a little rusty on it, a bit of the old series and Steve did an okay job of taking on this role but it didn’t take. Especially since we are so used to seeing him in big, important and actually smart roles like a newsman and congressman in the ‘Almighty’ movies, we just aren’t used to seeing him trying to do a role like that!

What makes up for the insanely good, and at the same time, bad casting and acting is the brilliant special effects and the fight scenes that make the movie the climactic thing it is. I also feel that the writing is a good point for the movie as I really enjoyed the plot line and quotes from the movie! Especially with the character twist in the end, the characters are so well written that you would have never have guessed it!

Get smart is a good film for family or fans or even anyone that wants to get acquainted with the franchise. But I would less recommend the movie for people who are less farmiliar with the franchise because of all the old references and stuff.

I give Get Smart 6½ / 10
