Reviews
My friends all told me to see the latest Transformers movie. They all loved it. I only heard a negative review from one or two people. I myself have only seen the first one on a bus and have not seen the second one. I do want to see those two, so they are (one of) the next on my list to watch. Now, onto the 3rd movie.
The story was alright. I felt like it was only half there. The stuff about Sam being a loser after saving the world 2 times was a good way to shake the relationship with his girlfriend Carly. But the job, aside from the role Ken Jeong’s character played, was just filler and probably not needed.
I loved the cast. While still not a Shia LaBeouf fan, he did a good job alongside his co-star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who looked too perfect all the time(In a way that after rolling around in dirt and ruble for a whole fight scene has no dust or dirt on her white shirt). Patrick Dempsey did a good job at being something other than just the ‘love intrest’ and someone who wants to survive and help The Decepticons. Ken Jeong is always great as the over the top character and while always enjoyable, probably didn’t need to be the kind of character he always plays.
John Malkovich as Sam’s new boss, just like I talked about his new job, probably wasn’t needed, although he was enjoyable in it as usual. Lastly, Leonard Nimoy makes a great Transformer as Sentinel Prime. My favourite bit of the movie was in a final battle where Sentinel speaks Spock’s dying words from Wrath of Khan(Nerd-Tastic!)
The action scenes are great and quite enjoyable, while felling like they just ditched the story to smash stuff. So the movie is quite good, which is good because I heard not so great things about number 2. I do recommend it to anyone who loves some transformer action.
There has been many Marvel movies announced and produced over the last few years. Between the latest X-men movie, The Marvel cinematic universe of movies(Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Avengers) and even the announced Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds(Green Lantern) based on his character from the Wolverine Origins movie, we have quite the Array of Marvel action coming about from past movies and in the future.
As a huge Spiderman fan, there is one movie which I have been following since I heard it announced, the upcoming Spiderman movie, Amazing Spiderman. I bet we have all heard about this one. It stars Andrew Garfield(The Social Network) and Emma Stone(Superbad, Easy A) with the lead roles.
It is interesting that the film delves into the story of Peter’s parents, something the previous films didn’t do much of. There still hasn’t been much word about any kind of Daily Bugle or J. Jonah, which without the movie would almost lack something that alot of fans would enjoy. J.K Simmons who played J. Jonah Jameson in the last 3 films is reprising that role in the upcoming animated series Ultimate Spiderman. He did an amazing job in the last 3 films and if they do add the character into this film by any chance, it should be him again.
The trailer looks good for a first up teaser. Could show us more about the story, maybe throw in a little “With great power, comes great responsibility”, but I am sure we will see more of that in future trailers. Towards the end is a sequence from first-person perspective that looks like something out of a video game. I suppose it is just the creators giving us an idea of what Spidey swinging around the city looks like. Looks good so far, abit more dark than the last series, somewhat like the latest batman movies, some have said.
Watch it for yourself:
I just got done watching Superman: Quest for Peace. It is the final Christopher Reeve movies and the last Superman movie I needed to watch to fill that hole in my watched list.
The movie wasn’t that bad compared to abit of what I had heard about it. The story and idea behind it was good. It even had Jon Cryer of TV sitcom Two and a Half Men. It is interesting seeing actors such as him in their past works or even in a role other than that which we have seen them most in.
The movie did have, however, some aspects which make it my least favorite Superman film. The effects and the fight scenes are less enjoyable as the previous movies, where you can guess they had a lower budget for this film. There is one or two loop-holes in the plot which distract from the film. There is a scene which replicates the Superman-Lois flying over the city scene from the first movie, which was a great homage to that scene from the first movie, but the events of that scene do not seem to be acknowledged in the rest of the film. Where I may have misinterpreted that scene, I feel like something significant happened there and the characters act like it didn’t happen.
Aside from those things, it is still a good movie with classic characters like Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane and the enjoyable Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor. Christopher Reeve has always been possibly my favourite Superman and always does a great Clark Kent. His Clark is how I see Clark, the somewhat clumsy mild-mannered reporter. I did enjoy the movie series as a whole and I would definitely recommend them to any Superman fan that hasn’t seen them yet.
